Overview of API RP 1173 – Foundation

Virtual, Instructor-Led

Event Summary

Designed for PSMS stakeholders at every level, this course will explore the foundation and development of the API RP 1173 (RP 1173), 1st Edition. It will provide a review of the history and causes leading to the original development of RP 1173, why use of a pipeline safety management system helps to increase pipeline operational safety, supports continuous improvement, and drives improved safety culture. This course also provides a concise overview of the current edition of RP 1173, not by focusing on a line-by-line reading of the original recommended practice, but on discussing many of the practical aspects of its use by operators since it was first published in 2015.

By the end of the course, you will understand the drivers of the original version of the API RP 1173 framework, why use of a pipeline safety management system is still fundamental to improving pipeline operations safety and safety culture, and some of the practical learnings from use of key PSMS processes by operators. From this you can be better prepared to support, communicate, and apply PSMS expectations across your organization.

Attendees will receive 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.
