Event Summary
This course explores how Ethical Artificial Intelligence can support, enhance, and responsibly transform qualitative and quantitative research in user research, innovation, and strategic foresight. Participants examine both AI’s capabilities and its limitations, including common failure modes, hallucinations, bias, and the continuing importance of human judgment.
Learning outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the principles of Ethical AI and their application to research, innovation, and strategic foresight.
- Identify appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI throughout the research lifecycle.
- Recognize common AI failure modes, including hallucinations, bias, false confidence, incomplete reasoning, and fabricated or unreliable sources.
- Evaluate AI-generated research outputs for accuracy, validity, transparency, and potential bias.
- Apply ethical considerations related to privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property, consent, and responsible data use.
- Describe how AI-enabled tools are changing traditional qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Design a human-centered research approach that appropriately combines AI capabilities with human expertise and oversight.
- Establish appropriate safeguards for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating AI-assisted research.
Core question: How do we use AI to expand human capability without compromising the integrity of the research or the humans the research is intended to serve?
