Introduction to Gas Compressors and Applications

Virtual, Instructor-Led

Event Summary

Many professionals entering the natural gas industry lack a clear understanding of how gas compressors function and their role across operations. Compressor technology can be complex, and without a foundational grasp of types, components, and applications, it is difficult to connect equipment performance to system operations.

Without this understanding, teams may struggle to make informed operational or technical decisions, leading to inefficiencies, miscommunication across functions, and reduced system performance. A lack of compressor knowledge can also limit the ability to troubleshoot issues or optimize operations.

This course provides a practical, easy-to-understand introduction to gas compressors, focusing on the most used type-reciprocating and centrifugal. It simplifies key concepts such as operation, components, and rating criteria while connecting them to real-world applications across upstream, midstream, and downstream systems.

Participants will be able to better understand how compressors support gas movement, recognize differences between compressor types, and communicate more effectively with technical teams. They will leave with a stronger foundation to support operations, maintenance, and decision-making.

Who Should Attend

  • New professionals entering the natural gas industry
  • Operations, maintenance, and technical support personnel
  • Engineers seeking foundational knowledge of compression systems
  • Anyone looking to broaden their understanding of gas compressor technology

What You Will Gain

  • A foundational understanding of gas compressor types and how they operate
  • Insight into reciprocating and centrifugal compressors and their key differences
  • Knowledge of major components and performance considerations
  • Awareness of how compressors are used across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations
  • Improved ability to support operational discussions and technical decision-making

Attendees will receive 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.
