Event Summary
The release of the 2nd Edition of API RP 1173 reflects how the industry has learned, adapted, and matured in its approach to Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS). This course is designed for all PSMS stakeholders who need a clear, practical understanding of what has changed—and what those changes mean in practice.
Participants will explore the most significant updates to the 2nd Edition, with a focus on why changes were made, how they affect PSMS implementation, and what the industry has learned since adopting the original 2015 version. Rather than a line-by-line comparison, the course highlight’s themes, intent, and real-world implications drawn from industry experience.
The training also incorporates industry lessons learned from early adopters, including common challenges, successful practices, and pitfalls to avoid. Special attention is given to updates around Safety Culture integration, Safety Assurance, governance, and accountability, helping participants understand how PSMS expectations have evolved and how organizations can strengthen system performance moving forward.
Attendees will receive 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.
